ADA Railings — Martin County & Palm Beach County, FL

ADA compliant hand railings, ramp railings, stair railings, and accessible fencing for commercial properties, churches, medical facilities, schools, and multi-family buildings. Licensed, insured, and bonded railing contractor.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Florida Building Code set strict requirements for hand railings, ramp railings, and accessible pathways in commercial and public-access buildings. AlliedFenceAndGate.com™ is a licensed railing contractor that designs, fabricates, and installs ADA-compliant railing systems throughout Martin County and Palm Beach County, Florida.

Our ADA railing installations cover the full spectrum of accessibility requirements: exterior ramp railings for wheelchair access, interior and exterior stair railings with proper graspability profiles, guard rails for elevated walkways and terraces, pool deck safety railings, and grab bars for restrooms and shower facilities. Every railing we install meets or exceeds ADA Standards for Accessible Design (2010 ADA Standards), the Florida Building Code (FBC 7th Edition), and local municipal requirements.

We work primarily with welded aluminum and galvanized steel — both materials offer exceptional corrosion resistance in Florida's coastal climate, meet ADA graspability requirements (1.25”–2” outside diameter for round handrails), and accept powder-coat finishes in any color. Our in-house welding capability means we fabricate custom railing configurations on-site or in our shop, ensuring precise fit for non-standard ramp angles, curved pathways, and unusual building geometries.

Common clients include churches and houses of worship, medical offices and clinics, retail storefronts, restaurants, HOA clubhouses and common areas, multi-family residential buildings, schools, government facilities, and homeowners who need accessible ramp railings for aging-in-place modifications. We handle the full process: site survey, engineering drawings when required, permitting, fabrication, installation, and final inspection.

ADA Railing Requirements We Meet

Handrail Height: 34–38”

ADA requires handrails between 34 and 38 inches above the walking surface for ramps and stairs. We set every railing to 36” (the center of the compliant range) unless the project engineer specifies otherwise.

Graspability Profile

Handrails must have a circular cross-section with an outside diameter of 1.25” to 2”, or a non-circular profile with a perimeter of 4” to 6.25”. We stock compliant profiles in aluminum and steel.

Continuous & Uninterrupted

Handrails must run continuously along the full length of ramps and stairs. They cannot be interrupted by posts, brackets, or obstructions that break the graspable surface.

Extensions at Top & Bottom

Handrails must extend 12” minimum beyond the top and bottom of ramps and stairs, running horizontally. This gives users a stable grip point before and after the slope change.

Guard Rail Height: 42” Min

Guards (protective barriers at elevated edges) must be at least 42 inches high. We install guards on elevated walkways, terraces, ramps with drop-offs, and any surface more than 30” above grade.

Returns to Wall or Post

Handrail ends must return to the wall, post, or floor to prevent clothing or equipment from catching. We weld smooth returns on every railing terminus.

ADA Railings FAQ

What are the ADA railing height requirements in Florida?

ADA and Florida Building Code require handrails at 34–38 inches above the walking surface for ramps and stairs. Guards (protective barriers) must be at least 42 inches high. Railings must be continuous along the full length of ramps and stairs, with extensions at the top and bottom.

What materials do you use for ADA railings?

We primarily use welded aluminum and galvanized steel with powder-coat finish. Both materials resist Florida's salt air and UV exposure while meeting ADA graspability requirements (1.25“–2” outside diameter for round handrails, or equivalent non-circular profiles).

Do you install ADA railings for residential properties?

Yes. While most ADA railing projects are commercial (churches, medical offices, storefronts, HOA common areas), we also install residential railings for homeowners who need accessible ramp railings, stair railings, or grab bars for aging in place.

How long does ADA railing installation take?

Most ADA railing projects take 1–3 days to install once permits are approved. Permitting takes 3–7 business days depending on the county. We coordinate all inspections and ensure the installation passes on the first visit.

Do ADA railings need permits in Florida?

Yes. Any railing installation that affects egress, accessibility, or structural elements requires a building permit. We pull all permits through the appropriate county building department and handle the full inspection process.
