- Graspable profile: 1.25–2 inch circular cross-section
- 12-inch minimum extension at top and bottom of stairs
- Continuous handrail — no breaks or obstructions
- Non-slip surface finish required
- Must support 250 lbs of concentrated load
- Ramp railings on both sides when rise exceeds 6 inches
- Pool gates: self-closing & self-latching at 54 inches minimum
